When decorating a room, don't forget man's best friend! You can create a chic and comfy space for your pet that is stylish and blends with your home's decor. Some dog (or cat) beds tend to be cutsie or you just can't find a color or fabric pattern that gels with your decor. One way to solve that problem is to make your own bed.

Follow these simple directions from to create a personalized bed for your best friend. This project is probably best suited to someone who has a bit of experience behind a sewing machine so if you don't, grab a friend who does. While the pattern is in the shape of a doggy bone, once you get the basics down, you can create your own shape and pattern. So let's get sewing!

Make a special place for your furry best friend to catch a cat nap!


  • 1-1/2 yds. blue and white ticking fabric (or any heavy duty fabric that suits your fancy)
  • 20 oz. of polyester fiberfill
  • Sewing machine
  • 1 Spool matching thread
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Measuring tape


  1. On photocopier, enlarge pattern A and B until the measurement key is actual size. Cut 2 of A and 8 of B, as indicated.
  2. Note: Pieces should be cut with stripe running in direction shown in photo. Cut two 5" x 51" pieces from fabric.
  3. For cushion top, pin B to piece A, right sides facing and straight edges matching. Repeat for 3 remaining corners.
